IAP:MCR - PAID INTERNSHIPS

IAP:MCR creates and presents new work across the visual and performing arts made by artists who identify as queer. We tell the stories of LGBTQIA+ people utilising multidisciplinary art forms to engage, welcome and entertain, whilst enabling collaboration, participation and celebration.

A core aspect of our work is to offer, on every project, paid internships providing training and employment opportunities to emerging practitioners, specifically targeted to people from Global Majority / LGBTQIA+ / Working Class communities.

For PROTEST! we are recruiting two paid interns who will work on the delivery of a wide range of activity and events during the next phase of the project.

This includes:

• An exhibition at People’s History Museum (PHM) in Manchester, curated by IAP director Jez Dolan, working with the PHM’s collection including its internationally significant archive, and world-renowned banners. Opening January 2026

• Three artist commissions (TBC) which will be exhibited as part of the exhibition at PHM. Commissions to be announced September 2025

• A live events programme animating the project which currently include: a collaboration with SCENE festival (August 2025) which merges queer club night, historical re-enactment, and film at Fairfield Social Club. Further live events to be programmed

• The making of a new film, led by writer and IAP co-director Joshua Val Martin and filmmaker Lee Baxter

• An end-of-project symposium bringing together artists, academics, gallery & museum professionals, historians and others in a day-long public-facing event.

The internships will offer the unique opportunity to be practically involved in the planning, delivery and evaluation of the exhibition and events programme working as part of a highly experienced team of artists, producers and facilitators. We will, wherever possible adapt this to suit the interests and skills of the individual interns.

We are really sorry to hear of the death of Campbell Robertson

Campbell (left) seen here with his friend Jack and with our Artistic Director Jez Dolan

Campbell has been a long-standing supported of IAP:MCR.  Indeed, he is the first person that we ever interviewed.  He was a major contributor to Polari Mission in 2012 and his voice is preserved in the public archives at Manchester Central Library. His testimony was incorporated into many of our shows. Our condolences go to his friends.
